Ashok Rai new joint director of Wildlife Crime Bureau
Ashok Rai, a 1983 IPS official from Uttarakhand, has been appointed as the joint director of the newly-constituted Wildlife Crime Control Bureau under the Ministry of Environment.
Rai, who was earlier posted with the Cabinet Secretariat at the Centre, will hold the full-time post in the bureau.
The Crime Bureau was set up at the behest of the Prime Minister to develop infrastructure and capacity building for scientific and professional investigation into wildlife crimes, besides assisting state governments to ensure success in prosecutions related to wildlife crime.
The bureau will have two joint directors -- one from the IFS and another from the IPS rank. They who will be assisted by six regional directors to be posted at Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai having two officials each, and New Delhi and Jabalpur with one official each.

Software maker Adobe Systems Inc. CEO Bruce Chizen said he would step down, and President and Chief Operating Officer Shantanu Narayen will replace him on Dec. 1.
Narayen joined Adobe in 1998 as vice president and general manager of engineering. In 1999, he was promoted to senior vice president, and in January 2005 he became president and chief operating officer. Before Adobe, Narayen co-founded Pictra Inc., a digital photo sharing software company. He also served as director of desktop and collaboration products at Silicon Graphics Inc. and was a senior manager at Apple Inc.
Chizen, who has been at Adobe for 14 years, will remain CEO until Nov. 30, then work halftime as a strategic adviser until the end of fiscal 2008. He will also serve on Adobe's board of directors through the spring.

Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) chairman B R Rahi resigned from his post on the first day the new BJP Government took charge. ''Keeping in view the healthy traditions, I hereby tender my resignation as a HPBSE chairman,'' Mr Rahi, a close associate of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, said in his letter to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. Damodaran era ends; Bhave takeovers as Chairman of SEBI
Newly-appointed Sebi chief C B Bhave assumed office and is likely to continue with reforms in the financial markets as effected by M Damodaran, whose three-year stint as chairman of the market regulator ended..
Under Damodaran chairmanship, Sebi introduced a number of reforms, including the tightening of mutual funds and IPO norms.
Sebi also approved seven new products in derivatives such as mini contracts, options in futures, longer dated options and currency futures and options.
During the period, Sebi came up with draft guidelines on Real Estate Investment Trusts (Reits), with a view to regulate the fund raising activities of such trusts and to make it more transparent.
